Economic Impact & Job Creation

The redevelopment of the Harold Park site would provide a major economic boost to the Sydney and NSW economies and create thousands of new jobs – as well as protecting existing jobs in the NSW Harness Racing Industry.

Development and construction costs – Estimated up to $760 million.

Estimated construction jobs - Construction activity at Harold Park would occur on a staged basis depending upon the final use allocation. Estimated construction jobs are up to 5,300. Flow on jobs through the economy as a result of the new activity are estimated at up to some 21,000 jobs.

Post-construction employment – this will vary depending upon use, but it is evident that there will be ongoing employment generated on and by the site. At this stage it is estimated that it could be up to 485 jobs.

Regional employment – with sale proceeds from the site going to infrastructure upgrades at harness racing facilities around NSW there will also be an economic boost and new jobs for these communities.

Harness Racing jobs – the redevelopment of Harold Park is essential for the restructure of Harness Racing in NSW and the protection jobs for some 29,000 employed by the industry across NSW.
