Bennett

July 26th, 2007 by Amanda Rando

Recent Renshaw Cup placegetter, Spiritual King, has been sold to the United States.

Driver Greg Bennett confirmed the news at Harold Park last Friday night after winning aboard Torpedo Bay, which coincidently has the same connections as the latest export.

"Spiritual King has been sold to America - the owners had an offer too good to refuse," Bennett stated.

"He did a great job for the stable and it will be sad to see him go.

"It will be hard to find another horse like him but hopefully Torpedo Bay will do just as good of a job for the owners."

Torpedo Bay is owned by trainer Jim Bennett, R Edgerton and John Green and together they bought the horse from New Zealand.

The son of Christian Cullen's most recent win extended his Australian record to nine wins and eight placings from 18 starts.

The gelding has only been out of the money once since crossing the Tasman.

"He is an honest horse," Bennett claimed.

"I think he'll make a good Harold Park horse."

Bennett snapped up a treble on the night, also driving winners Regal Sign for trainer Brian Lonsdale and Decndice.

Decndice's win in a three-year-old Sires' Stakes semi-final gave Jim a training double.

"My season is starting to pick up," Bennett (Greg) declared.
